Issued February 9, 2021, to Sony Interactive Ent., LLC
Filed: May 19, 2019 (claiming priority to March 13, 2012)
Overview:
U.S. Patent No. 10,913,003 (the ‘003 patent) relates to sharing a gameplay experience in a cloud gaming system. The ‘003 patent details a method of sharing gameplay by first streaming gameplay of a first user over a network, receiving a command from the first user’s gameplay to share an interactive playable portion, and then responding to the command by sharing that portion with a second user through a social interface. The interactive playable portion would provide the second user a substantially similar game experience to the first user, such as the same scene, spatial location, and temporal location. Sharing the interactive playable portion also could enable the second user to view the gameplay of the game from which the interactive playable portion is generated. If multiple pieces of gameplay are shared, the ‘003 patent could also provide a second user with multiple portions of interactive playable game, arranged together, potentially including recorded gameplay of the first user. The ‘003 patent could be used to share recorded gameplay, from one friend to another, and enabling the second user to try out the same gameplay as the first. Backseat gamer beware!
